Selena Gomez has revealed why she chose to return to her iconic role as Alex Russo in the reboot, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. In a recent interview with Allure, the actress and singer shared her personal connection to the original series and its cast.
Gomez, who was 15 when the series premiered in 2007, explained that the show was a significant part of her formative years. “I was in these crucial years of my brain developing,” she said. She also expressed her deep bond with the cast, including David Henrie and Jennifer Stone, stating, “All of those people that are on the show with us have grown and evolved, and I want them to be in my life.”
For Gomez, the decision to guest star in the new series was a way of honoring her past. “I think that’s why I always go back. I genuinely feel like I owe a big part of my life to that show,” she told the publication.
In a heartfelt twist, she also mentioned that her 12-year-old half-sister, Gracie, is a big fan of the reboot. “It’s a home. It’s safe,” Gomez said. “My sister just gets a kick out of it, so half the reason I’m doing it is for her.”
The second season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is set to premiere with two episodes on Friday, September 12, 2025.
