HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities are still searching for the driver who fatally struck a 68-year-old woman during a police chase in southeast Houston.
The Houston Police Department announced that Jacolby Pendleton, 30, has been charged with murder in connection with Thursday night’s deadly crash. Pendleton is also one of seven suspects recently arrested in shootings across southeast Houston.
According to police, the incident began when officers identified a known felony suspect with warrants for aggravated assault, engaging in organized crime, and possession of a controlled substance.
Around 8:20 p.m., officers attempted to pull him over, but he refused to stop, initiating a chase near the I-610 South Loop interchange with SH-288.
During the pursuit, the suspect ran stop signs, ignored red lights, and at one point drove on the wrong side of the road.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a dumpster near Rebecca Street and Tierwester and fled the scene. It was then that police discovered the woman had been hit by the suspect’s car during the crash. Despite officers’ efforts to perform CPR and call for paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Pendleton’s arrest.
