Iconic 58-year-old actress Salma Hayek has disclosed that nothing in life has been more rewarding than witnessing her children mature and achieve independence.
She is the mother of 18-year-old Valentina, her daughter with husband and Kering CEO Francois-Henri Pinault, and also serves as a stepmother to her partner’s three children: Francois, Mathilde, and Augustin.
Salma expressed that watching all of them transition into adulthood has significantly influenced her career choices, as she declined numerous roles to prioritize being a present parent, making her family her “priority.”
Speaking to the Italian publication IO Donna, she shared, “All my children, not just Valentina, are now independent, and this brings me great joy. I have dedicated a significant amount of time to this. My family has always been my priority. This is evident in my career; over the past 18 years, I have primarily selected roles that were filmed during the summer and in Europe.”
“I didn’t have to sacrifice anything; I simply organized myself more effectively,” the Frida star added.
Salma continued, “I am aware that there is still so much to accomplish. The certainty that every story I tell, every project I bring to life, can make a difference in someone else’s life.”
“I am not interested in publicizing my acts of kindness; my focus is solely on doing them. Change doesn’t need advertising; it requires action. This principle has always guided me in life,” she further elaborated.
Explaining her current work routine, the Grown Ups star told the outlet, “I essentially work around the clock. During the day, I conduct interviews, do photoshoots, or attend various meetings with the foundations I collaborate with. At night, I am in the office with my production company because it is daytime on the other side of the ocean.”
“Our latest endeavor is a television adaptation of Laura Esquivel’s popular 1989 novel Like Water for Chocolate. It took us six years to complete, and when we consider that there are 600 million Spanish speakers globally, the potential is clearly immense,” Salma Hayek concluded.
