Russia has labeled Iran as an “important partner” while avoiding direct comments on reports that Tehran has been supplying short-range ballistic missiles to Russian forces in Ukraine.
The European Union has claimed it has “credible information” about Iran’s missile shipments to Russia, escalating concerns about Tehran’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict. Russia, while not confirming the allegations, emphasized its strong bilateral relations with Iran, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov highlighting their ongoing trade and economic cooperation.
The Wall Street Journal initially reported on the missile supplies last Friday, and the EU has suggested potential new sanctions against Tehran if the reports are verified. Iran has firmly denied these claims, with Brigadier Fazlollah Nozari of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards labeling the reports as “psychological warfare” and stating that Iran is not aligned with any party in the Ukraine conflict.
The allegations have drawn international concern, with the US and NATO expressing worry about the potential impact of such arms transfers on Ukraine and regional stability. Although the White House has not confirmed the reports, Kyiv has warned that the strengthening military ties between Iran and Russia could pose a threat to Ukraine, Europe, and the Middle East.
