Two planes collided on the runway at Atlanta Airport in Georgia, USA, with photos on social media showing the tail of one aircraft partially severed.
Delta Air Lines confirmed that one of its planes collided with a regional jet while taxiing for departure, causing damage to both aircraft. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Delta stated that affected passengers would be rebooked on other flights.
The collision involved a Delta Airbus A350, bound for Tokyo-Haneda, and an Endeavor Air CRJ-900, scheduled to depart for Lafayette, Louisiana. Endeavor Air, a Delta subsidiary, saw its regional jet’s tail damaged, while the A350 sustained wing damage.
A passenger described the incident on Twitter as “very jarring,” noting “metal scraping sounds followed by loud bangs.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced an investigation into the collision. This event follows a similar incident earlier this year at London’s Heathrow Airport, where a Virgin Atlantic 787 and a British Airways Airbus A350 collided with no injuries reported.
