Former President Donald Trump granted a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the infamous dark web marketplace Silk Road, sparking debate on digital rights and government overreach.
Trump expressed frustration over Ulbricht’s life sentence, calling it “ridiculous” and criticizing the prosecution’s actions as part of the “weaponization of government.”
Ulbricht, arrested in 2013 and convicted in 2015, created Silk Road as a marketplace for anonymous transactions using Bitcoin, facilitating over 1.5 million transactions worth more than $213 million, including illicit drug sales.
