Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal’s legendary captain, has urged his teammates to stay “focused” on securing a victory as they prepare for their crucial UEFA Nations League clash with Poland on Friday. The 39-year-old forward, who plays for Al Nassr, is determined to lead his side to a spot in the summer semi-finals.
Ahead of the match at the Estadio do Dragao in Lisbon, Ronaldo shared an uplifting message on social media, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and concentration. Posting a series of photos of himself smiling and training with his teammates, he captioned the images: “Focused on the win!”
Despite a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, where Portugal were eliminated in a penalty shootout by France in the quarter-finals, coach Roberto Martinez’s side has bounced back strongly in the Nations League. Portugal have won three of their first four matches, with Ronaldo scoring in each of those victories. Even though he was unable to find the back of the net during Euro 2024, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains a key figure in Portugal’s attack.
Poland, in contrast, had a dismal Euro 2024 campaign, failing to win any of their matches and securing just a single point from a draw with France before exiting in the group stage. The Polish side is also without a win in their last three games, including a 3-1 defeat to Portugal in their most recent encounter. In fact, Poland has not won any of the last five meetings between the two teams, making them the underdogs heading into Friday’s match.
