After nearly six months since their initial 311 request, residents in a southeast Dallas neighborhood, Kleberg, are finally witnessing road repairs underway. For the community, this marks a significant step in their ongoing efforts to enhance city services.
Luis Rodriguez, observing the crews from the Dallas Public Works Department patching parts of Silver Brook Road, expressed satisfaction with the progress. “You can see the change all the time now,” Rodriguez remarked. “People are making it more comfortable, repairing the little holes in the streets. It’s very good for my neighborhood.”
Located off U.S. Highway 175 and Interstate 20, Kleberg has long sought improved services from Dallas City Hall, including a city park, more pedestrian-friendly areas, and upgrades to the aging Kleberg Recreation Center, as highlighted by Marcus Wood of the Kleberg Neighborhood Association.
“The patches on Silver Brook Road are a positive start,” Wood noted. “In the coming weeks or months, we expect to see many more improvements.”
Dallas voters approved $521 million for street repairs over the next five years as part of a $1.2 billion bond passed in May. The city’s online pavement map underscores the extensive need, with streets marked in red indicating a “failed condition” requiring complete repaving throughout various parts of the city.
While acknowledging that patches are not a perfect solution, Rodriguez remains optimistic about the ongoing improvements and looks forward to additional repairs benefiting one of Dallas’s oldest communities.
