Rescue operations in the Tirah Valley have been successfully completed, with the registration and relocation of affected individuals resumed four days later. A total of 2,400 affected individuals, including 480 vehicles, were rescued during the rescue operation. Over 200 individuals suffering from injuries due to being stranded in the snow were provided medical assistance. To provide relief to affected individuals in the Tirah Valley, rescue camps have been established at Pandi Chenai, Mehrban Kaliu, and Dau Tiwe.
According to Syed Maqsood Alam, spokesperson for Rescue 1122 in District Khyber, local residents began relocating to the Tirah Valley on January 10, but the severe snowfall on January 22 stranded hundreds of affected families on the roads. Hundreds of affected individuals, including children and women, were trapped in trucks. The authorities initiated the rescue operation on January 22, following orders from the higher authorities. The rescue operation involved teams from District Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, and Nowshera.
During the four-day rescue operation, the main road from Bara to Tirah was completely restored to facilitate traffic movement. Maqsood Alam stated that a total of 170 personnel, 27 vehicles, 21 ambulances, 4 excavators, 6 tractors, and other machinery were deployed for the rescue operation. Additionally, staff and machinery from the C&W Department were also deployed.
Following the successful completion of the rescue operation, registration of affected individuals in the Tirah Valley began on January 26. The registration centers have been restored to their normal functioning. According to the PDMA’s records, approximately 10,000 families had registered for relocation four days prior to January 22, with most having already relocated. The total population of the area is approximately 130,000 individuals.
