The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced the postponement of intermediate examinations originally scheduled for Wednesday. This decision comes as the Sindh government has declared May 28th a public holiday in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer.
Under the directives of BIEK Chairman Ghulam Hussain Soho, the affected papers for the Science Pre-Medical and Science General groups will now be conducted on May 30th. According to the revised schedule, Botany Paper I (for both new and old courses, and for failed students), which was initially set for May 28th from 9 am to 11 am, will now take place on May 30th at the same time. Similarly, English (Normal) Paper I (for new and old courses, and failed students) and English Advanced Paper I (for failed students), originally scheduled for May 28th from 2 pm to 5 pm, will now be held on May 30th from 3 pm to 6 pm. The board has clarified that there will be no alteration to the examination centers.
Youm-e-Takbeer: Pakistan’s Nuclear Milestone
May 28th is observed as a gazetted holiday nationwide, a notification for which was issued by the Cabinet Division last year. On this day in 1998, Pakistan achieved the distinction of becoming the seventh nuclear-armed country globally and the first in the Islamic world, following successful nuclear tests. India’s initial “device” test in 1974 spurred Pakistan to accelerate its nuclear program with renewed determination. Amidst chants of “Allah-o-Akbar,” Pakistan conducted its inaugural test on May 28, 1998, at the Ras Koh hills in Balochistan’s Chaghai district. These nuclear tests not only underscored Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to safeguard its territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty but also highlighted its desire to maintain strategic balance within South Asia.
