A citizen, Ghulam Murtaza Khan, has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court against the dissemination of “provocative and malicious” content from a convicted prisoner’s social media account. The petition, filed through Barrister Zafarullah Khan Advocate, asserts that this activity is unlawful and a violation of prison rules.
The petitioner has requested the court to direct the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to conduct a thorough investigation. The goal is to determine who has been operating the account of the PTI founder while he remains incarcerated.
Furthermore, the petition seeks directives for social media platforms to block and remove this content. It also asks the court to instruct the jail superintendent to ensure the prisoner is not allowed to access or operate social media, calling such activity “unconstitutional and illegal.”
Finally, the petitioner has asked the court to restrain the PTI from redistributing or promoting any posts originating from the founder’s account during his imprisonment.
