Renowned Sindhi poet Allah Bux, popularly known as Dr. Akash Ansari, passed away at the age of 69 due to a fire that broke out in his house in Hyderabad. Police confirmed his death on Saturday.
According to his foster son, Latif Akash, the poet was asleep when the fire erupted in his room around 8:30 AM. Latif stated that upon entering the room, he found his father lying on the floor, while the room was filled with smoke and the floor was extremely hot.
Rescue officials were immediately called to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire. Authorities confirmed that the incident took place in Citizen Colony, Hyderabad.
Initially, the deceased’s family took his body to Badin for burial. However, at the authorities’ request, his remains were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad, for medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah paid tribute to the late poet’s contributions and ordered an investigation into the incident.
Following the chief minister’s directives, Hyderabad SSP formed a five-member investigation team, led by SP Headquarters Masood Iqbal, to determine the cause of the fire.
Speaking to journalists, SP Iqbal stated that an initial probe suggests the fire was caused by a short circuit. He further mentioned that the poet used to take sleeping pills.
The police officer also revealed that Dr. Akash’s son was present at home when the incident occurred. Latif sought the help of rescue officers and neighbors to save his father’s life.
SP Iqbal further disclosed that Dr. Akash had filed a case against his foster son in 2024, but the matter was later resolved amicably.
