Renowned Pakistani journalist and news anchor Shahzad Khanzada has revealed the real stories behind the characters of ‘Case Number 9’, a crime drama series he wrote for Geo TV. Following the success of ‘Case Number 9’, Khanzada has announced the launch of his new writing project, ‘Case Number 10′. As the host of Geo News’ popular show ‘Aaj Shahzad Khanzada Kay Sath’, Khanzada has recently ventured into screenwriting and has made a successful start with ‘Case Number 9’, which aired in 2025 and received widespread acclaim.
In a recent YouTube interview, Khanzada discussed the real-life stories and characters behind ‘Case Number 9’. When talking about the Hindu characters Rohit and Manisha, Khanzada revealed that these characters were inspired by a close Hindu friend of his. As an anchor, he felt that the experiences of minorities in Pakistan were different from those of the majority, especially in Sindh, where minority experiences are relatively different from other parts of the country.
Khanzada’s show ‘Aaj Shahzad Khanzada Kay Sath’ often raised the issue of minority rights, and the reaction from minority communities was overwhelming, which he felt was a sign of the severity of the issue. He revealed that Rohit and Manisha’s characters were part of his team, while Shubaz and Arusa were also inspired by his team members. Due to difficulty in naming characters, Khanzada used real-life names, including Vikash, the son of Rohit and Manisha, inspired by a friend. His aim was to highlight the representation of minorities in the drama.
When asked about the inspiration from real-life events, Khanzada stated that ‘Case Number 9’ was not based on a single incident, but some scenes were inspired by real-life events. For example, a powerful character using lawyers to pressure a victim was based on a real incident. Similarly, Inspector Shafique’s investigative style was also inspired by real-life, but the original incident was more severe and brutal, which was toned down for the audience.
Following the success of ‘Case Number 9’, Khanzada has announced his new writing project, ‘Case Number 10’, which is a murder mystery story. However, the release date is yet to be confirmed. The success of ‘Case Number 9’ gave him the motivation to work on his next project immediately. When he discovered that the script was written by Khanzada, he was skeptical, but the positive response to ‘Case Number 9′ encouraged him to collaborate with Khanzada.
