The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken a significant step towards formalizing the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services in the country by officially initiating their licensing process. This move is aimed at ensuring legal and secure access within the digital landscape.
According to a notification released by the PTA, the authority has already issued Class Licenses to more than five companies for the provision of VPN services. These licensed entities are now authorized to offer VPN services solely for legal and authorized purposes.
Under this new framework, users requiring VPN access can now obtain registration directly from these licensed companies. The PTA stated that the primary goal of this initiative is to create a regulated structure for the delivery of secure and legal VPN services.
The Authority emphasized that this decision was made with the broader objectives of facilitating consumers, improving regulatory oversight, and bolstering national cybersecurity. The move seeks to curb illicit usage while ensuring that legitimate corporate, educational, and individual needs for secure networking are met.
