In a significant development for Southeast Asian regional stability, the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia have formally signed an extended ceasefire agreement. The global importance of this accord was highlighted by the presence of US President Donald Trump, who witnessed the signing.
According to international media, President Trump praised the diplomatic effort, referring to the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia as “brave” for taking this step toward peace.
This diplomatic engagement was not solely focused on the peace accord. The United States also used the opportunity to broaden its own economic and strategic ties within the region. President Trump signed a separate bilateral trade agreement with Cambodia.
Furthermore, the US finalized a key agreement with Thailand focused on the procurement of “critical minerals.”
A White House spokesperson confirmed that these strategic moves are set to continue, announcing that the US plans to sign a similar critical minerals deal with Malaysia during the upcoming ASEAN summit.
