In a concerted effort to promote regional stability, Iran has voiced serious concern regarding the escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, leading its Foreign Minister to engage in diplomatic consultations with his Qatari and Russian counterparts.
During a telephone call between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, both officials discussed issues of mutual interest. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, both Foreign Ministers expressed concern over the recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. They stressed the vital importance of continuous, positive, and conciliatory efforts by regional countries to achieve peace and stability in the area. The two also discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
In a parallel diplomatic move, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that both leaders urged Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their differences through political and diplomatic channels.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that FM Araghchi expressed deep worry over the recent border clashes, emphasizing the need for constructive regional efforts, dialogue, and increased cooperation among regional states to safeguard peace and stability.
