A Harris County inmate previously convicted of aggravated robbery faces new charges after allegedly attempting to stab a prosecutor.
Victor Guzman stands accused of possessing a prohibited item in a correctional facility. According to court records, Guzman reportedly made comments about using a nine-inch steel shank to harm the assistant district attorney handling his pending and past cases, with plans to carry out the act inside a courtroom.
Appearing in court on Thursday morning, Guzman was heavily surrounded by Harris County deputies.
Guzman was convicted of aggravated robbery on Oct. 13, 2022, and received a 20-year prison sentence. However, due to additional pending cases, he remained in custody at the Harris County Jail. It was during this time that investigators discovered the weapon in Guzman’s possession.
The presiding judge deemed Guzman not only a continued threat to society but also a danger to fellow inmates, detention officers, and deputies working within the Harris County Jail.
Consequently, Guzman faces a series of restrictions outlined in court documents, including limited visitation, communication, and solitary confinement. He is also barred from interacting with the general inmate population.
Guzman’s privileges, including phone calls, emails, and commissary access, have been revoked. His next court appearance is scheduled for March.
