A scuffle broke out between former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Shoaib Shaheen at Gate No. 5 of Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
According to sources, Fawad Chaudhry called Shoaib Shaheen a “tout,” to which Shaheen responded by telling him to mind his own business. The argument escalated, leading Chaudhry to slap Shaheen, causing him to fall to the ground and injure his arm.
Following the altercation, Chaudhry went back inside the jail while the jail superintendent called Shaheen in.
PTI worker Nadia Khattak commented on the incident, stating that while disagreements are normal, physical violence should not have occurred. She confirmed that Shaheen had sustained an injury to his hand but did not suffer any fractures.
PTI has been experiencing internal rifts, with senior leaders holding differing views on various matters. Recently, lawyer-turned-politician Sher Afzal Marwat was expelled from the party over disciplinary violations.
It is noteworthy that Fawad Chaudhry, who is facing multiple legal cases, had distanced himself from PTI following the crackdown on its leaders after the events of May 9, 2023. However, he later denied leaving the party, stating that only those who quit something return to it, and since he never left PTI, there was no question of rejoining.
This is not the first time Chaudhry has been involved in such encounters; he has previously had heated altercations with journalists Mubasher Lucman and Sami Ibrahim.
