As the first Iftar of Ramadan neared, a significant number of residents hurried to model bazaars in Lahore, anticipating the purchase of essential food items at reduced prices.
However, numerous shoppers at the Johar Town Model Bazaar voiced their dissatisfaction, deeming the Punjab government’s ‘Sasta Ramazan Bazar’ initiative a mockery due to the minimal price differences and the inconsistent quality of products.
Despite assertions of affordability, citizens discovered that prices within the model bazaars were only two to four rupees lower than those in standard markets. “This is not a discount; it’s an affront to the struggles of everyday people,” one shopper expressed regretfully. Others highlighted that the quality of food items also fluctuated, with certain products failing to meet the anticipated standards.
While the government had pledged relief during Ramadan, disillusioned shoppers criticized the initiative, asserting that genuine price reductions and stringent oversight are necessary to truly benefit the public.
