Rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, is expected in the port city of Karachi on Monday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting light to moderate showers through Tuesday, offering much-needed relief to citizens from the scorching hot weather.
According to the Met Department, Karachi is anticipated to experience hot and humid conditions over the next 24 hours, with partly cloudy skies. The maximum temperature could reach up to 37 degrees Celsius, while humidity is currently at 72%. Wind speeds in the city were recorded at 18 kilometers per hour.
However, the Met Department noted that rainfall may occur in isolated areas of the city and is projected to range from light to moderate intensity.
Earlier, Met officials had stated that a westerly wave was affecting the upper and central parts of the country and was likely to persist through Sunday and Monday, as reported by The News. They had predicted that mainly hot and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country, with very hot conditions in plain areas. However, partly cloudy weather with dust-storm-rain/thundershower was likely at isolated places in North-East and South Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and South-East Sindh, North-East Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan.
Rainfall was recorded in several cities including Gujrat, Mangla, Sialkot, Islamabad, Murree, Mir Khani, Kalam, Dir, Drosh, Rawalakot, and Gupis. Saturday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded in Turbat and Pasni, where the mercury reached 49°C.
Meanwhile, the average AQI in the city was 112, while the PM2.5 concentration was 8 times the World Health Organization (WHO) annual PM2.5 guideline value.
