The Punjab Information Commission (PIC) has conducted a comprehensive training session for 80 public information officers (PIOs) from 80 provincial government departments to enhance transparency, accountability, and citizens’ right to information in the province. The primary objective of this training is to effectively implement the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013, which mandates the provision of information in a timely, efficient, and legally compliant manner.
During the training session, led by Information Commissioner Bushra Tabassum, participants were briefed on the fundamental concepts and practical applications of the Right to Information law. The commissioner emphasized that transparency is meaningful only when the information provided is accurate, complete, and reliable.
Chief Information Commissioner Muhammad Malik Bulleh stated that transparency is crucial for effective governance, and it is the responsibility of public information officers to ensure that citizens have access to information. He warned that any delay or provision of false information would be met with action.
The training session focused on record management and legal responsibilities, providing PIOs with detailed guidance on their duties. The commission aims to ensure that all government departments operate with transparency and accountability, and that citizens have access to information as a fundamental right.
