The Punjab government has announced a crackdown on extremist elements and hate speech, ensuring that honorary titles are only awarded to responsible and law-abiding Islamic scholars. According to a policy approved by the government, individuals who propagate anti-state statements will have their honorary titles revoked immediately, and strict action will be taken against them.
The Punjab Home Department stated that the aim of the honorary title scheme is to promote peace, harmony, and national unity. However, anyone found guilty of violating the law or promoting hate speech will be expelled from the list immediately. Initial investigations based on security and intelligence reports have cleared around 66,000 imams from mosques, as they have fulfilled all legal requirements and no anti-state activities were found against them.
The Punjab Home Department has assured that the screening and monitoring of the honorary title list will continue, and in the future, strict investigations will be conducted before awarding honorary titles. The government has also emphasized that public servants who incite unrest will not receive state patronage.

It was also clarified that the misuse of the honorary title scheme will not be tolerated, and religious activities will be allowed to take place within the bounds of the law.
