Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has stated that the provincial government is committed to tackling the severe air pollution crisis using a rigorous scientific approach, asserting that public health remains the sole priority above any political narrative.
Speaking on the government’s strategy, Aurangzeb acknowledged that Lahore’s pollution levels have seen a recent spike due to Northwesterly winds. However, she emphasized that Punjab is currently implementing the region’s most comprehensive anti-smog plan to counter the hazard. Key resources have been mobilized, including specialized smog control machinery, water bowsers, and inspection teams, all placed on high alert and operating 24/7 in the field.
The Minister detailed the strategic measures being taken, highlighting the use of scientific mapping to maintain a complete record of pollution originating from industrial cities. Furthermore, drone surveillance and ground teams have intensified their operations to aggressively curb the practice of burning crop residue, a major contributor to smog.
Aurangzeb expressed confidence that these concerted governmental actions will lead to noticeable improvements very soon. She also issued a critical health advisory to the public: sensitive individuals should avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure and use masks. Citizens were advised to increase their water intake and seek immediate medical help at the nearest hospital if they experience breathing difficulties.
