In the face of escalating political pressure from nationwide demonstrations, US President Donald Trump appears to have been pushed onto the “back foot,” compelling him to issue a significant clarification regarding the nature of his authority.
During an exclusive interview with a US television network, President Trump explicitly rejected the “King” label that critics have often applied to his governing style.
When pressed about the recent protests that swept the country on Sunday, Trump offered a direct denial of any autocratic self-perception. “I am not a king,” he stated. “I don’t consider myself a ‘King’.”
This declaration is seen by many as a notable retreat, seemingly forced by the widespread public backlash.
Although the President used the interview to strongly defend his policies and launch fresh attacks against opposition leaders, his admission that he is not a “King” is being widely interpreted as an acknowledgment of the growing public discontent.
