ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party on Monday urged the military to immediately cease widespread action in the tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, instead recommending that forces limit themselves to targeted Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs).
PTI leader Asad Qaiser, speaking after the meeting, stated, “The parliamentary party urged the decision makers to immediately stop operations in tribal areas as it will not be beneficial. So far, 21 operations have been conducted, but issues could not be resolved. We have suggested that the IBOs should be conducted.”
Judicial Support and Internal Autonomy
Mr. Qaiser also informed the press that Imran Khan had empowered the joint parliamentary party to take decisions independently and communicate them back to him through Barrister Gohar Ali Khan or Barrister Ali Zafar, signaling a degree of operational autonomy for the lawmakers.
The party also expressed deep concern that even judges were struggling to get justice in Pakistan, referencing a letter written by five judges and the ongoing case involving Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri. PTI announced it would continue its moral support for the judiciary members involved.
Key Decisions and Public Assembly
According to a party statement, the meeting, chaired by party chairman Barrister Gohar, finalized several key decisions:
- Public Assembly: A “People’s Assembly” will be held outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday with the participation of all lawmakers. The gathering will focus on pressing public concerns, including inflation, the flood crisis, and the deteriorating law and order situation.
- Supreme Court Bar Elections: The party formally announced its decision to participate in the upcoming Supreme Court bar elections.
- Relief Efforts: It was decided that all members of the assemblies would take an active part in relief efforts in flood-affected areas, pledging that the people would not be left alone during this difficult time.
- Condolences: The party offered prayers and condolences for the children and women who tragically died in the Tirah Valley incident.
- AJK Situation: Concern was also expressed over the recent volatile situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
