Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser stated on Wednesday that the party seeks a national dialogue that includes all relevant stakeholders, not just political parties or the current government.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Qaiser called for the declaration of a state of emergency to address the construction of dams, especially small-scale dams. He said all provinces and the federal government must prepare a comprehensive plan for water resource development.
He said the PTI is open to talks on the economy, border security, and other national issues but emphasized that the conversation should go beyond political actors and official channels. He criticized recent political decisions and questioned the “legitimacy” of the current setup, saying, “We ask what system they intend to continue with.”
Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, also speaking at the press conference, said that Ali Amin Gandapur’s comments on the Kalabagh Dam and a presidential form of government were his personal views. He stated that no such plans should be implemented until a political consensus is reached and all sides are satisfied.
Raja added that the PTI will not accept any constitutional amendments passed by the current parliament. He described the system installed through the 8 February elections as a failing structure, characterizing it as anti-people and anti-poor. He urged policymakers to act responsibly and show respect for the public mandate. “We want an economy and a society that support the poor,” he said. “Policies must not benefit only the wealthy or industrialists.”
