The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has once again refused to engage in political talks with the government, rejecting the latest invitation from the National Assembly speaker.
Talks Are Now Closed: Omer Ayub
Speaking to a private news channel, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omer Ayub Khan declared that “the chapter of talks is now closed.” He emphasized that political negotiations require firm commitments rather than mere wishes, which, according to him, the government failed to demonstrate.
Government’s Approach and Negotiation Deadlock
Omer Ayub criticized the government’s stance, stating that while PTI had initiated discussions in good faith, the ruling authorities failed to display either goodwill or any clear intent, leading to a deadlock.
“We started negotiations seriously, but the government did not accept our demands. Since they were not willing to proceed sincerely, we see no point in continuing talks,” he said.
Government’s Offer for Dialogue
On February 7, the federal government extended another offer for dialogue to PTI, emphasizing that “the doors for negotiations have never been closed.” National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq confirmed that the government’s negotiation committee was still intact.
Ayaz Sadiq’s Statement
Speaking to the media, Ayaz Sadiq noted that despite political differences, some PTI members were still in contact with the government. He also stressed that any initiative for talks must come from PTI itself.
“If approval comes from within PTI, then they will approach us,” he stated.
Referring to PTI Founder Imran Khan, Sadiq acknowledged that he is a tough negotiator but reaffirmed that the government remains open to dialogue.
