The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Meta have officially launched the “Teen Accounts” feature on Instagram in Pakistan, marking a significant step forward in strengthening online safety for young users.
Under this new feature, accounts for users under the age of 16 will automatically be converted to “Teen Accounts.” This system is designed to prevent unwanted contacts, filter sensitive content, and improve privacy protections.
The launch ceremony was attended by representatives from Meta, UNICEF, the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC), and various child protection organizations. The event also included awareness sessions on online safety, complaint mechanisms, and digital well-being.
The Chairman of PTA stated that the feature guarantees a safer digital future for youth and that the PTA is actively working with global platforms to promote child safety. Dr. Priyanka Bhalla, Meta’s Head of South Asia, praised the collaboration, calling the initiative a “milestone” in establishing a safe and responsible digital environment for Pakistan’s young users.
