Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Quetta on Saturday for a day-long visit to participate in a high-level jirga focused on addressing the law and order situation in Balochistan. According to aviation officials, the premier was welcomed at Quetta Airport by Acting Governor Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and other senior provincial officials. This jirga, convened in the provincial capital, gathers tribal elders, political leaders, provincial ministers, and lawmakers from across Balochistan. The forum is anticipated to deliberate on the deteriorating security landscape and explore avenues to strengthen coordination among stakeholders to re-establish peace in the province. Official sources indicated that PM Shehbaz will consult with tribal elders and local leadership on matters concerning internal security and development, seeking their endorsement for improving regional stability. This assembly is part of a broader initiative by the federal and provincial governments to engage communities in decision-making processes. Later in the day, PM Shehbaz is also slated to visit victims of the recent Sorab blast, which resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries. The Prime Minister is expected to inquire about the condition of those injured and assure them of the government’s assistance. Tensions in parts of Balochistan have intensified in recent months due to an increase in violent incidents and attacks targeting security forces and civilians. The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace through collaborative endeavors with the provincial administration and local communities.
