Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Wednesday that nothing surpasses victory, as he lauded Pakistan’s triumph over India in a conventional war, describing it as a moment that astounded the world. Speaking during a cabinet meeting, the premier emphasized that Pakistan’s historic win continues to be a global topic of discussion.
He commended Field Marshal Asim Munir for his leadership from the front, applauded the exceptional performance of the Pakistan Air Force, and highlighted the unwavering unity of the entire nation, which he attributed to divine recognition. He asserted that Pakistan’s armed forces showcased outstanding professional skills and secured a landmark victory against India. “The way our forces performed left the world in awe,” he added.
The two nations engaged in conflict in May after India launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistan following an assault on tourists in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). New Delhi maintains that the terrorists responsible for the deaths of 26 tourists in IIOJK’s Pahalgam were Pakistanis—a charge Islamabad has denied while also requesting India’s participation in a neutral investigation.
During the 87-hour conflict, Pakistan successfully downed six of India’s fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, and dozens of drones. The war between the two nuclear-armed nations concluded on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.
Damages from Recent Rains
During the session, Shehbaz Sharif also expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and property caused by recent heavy rains across the country. He noted that “torrential rainfall has wreaked havoc in parts of Punjab, Sindh, and hilly regions including Diamer and Gilgit-Baltistan.” He further mentioned that prayers were offered in the cabinet meeting for those who perished in recent terrorist incidents and floods.
On the subject of governance, the Prime Minister lauded the efforts of Energy Minister Awais Leghari and his team, acknowledging the revolutionary steps taken in the energy sector. He highlighted that constructive dialogue with IPPs (Independent Power Producers) has resulted in savings of billions of rupees and a reduction in losses for electricity distribution companies.
PM Shehbaz also praised the railway ministry for modernizing its ticketing system, describing the digital transformation at Lahore Railway Station as a source of personal satisfaction. He directed all ministries to enhance their performance and uphold transparency in the provision of public services.
