US President Donald Trump has indicated that trade discussions with China are progressing favorably. Speaking at the White House, he voiced his anticipation that both nations would soon finalize what he termed a “very fair deal.”
His remarks followed extended meetings between officials from both sides, who convened for hours to address their protracted trade dispute. “We’re moving along with China. We’re doing fine with China,” Trump informed reporters at the White House. He added, “I think it’s going to work out very well. We’re right in step. I think we’re going to have a very fair deal with China.”
On Monday, US and Chinese officials engaged in over five hours of talks in Stockholm. These discussions aimed to resolve economic disagreements and secure a three-month extension of their ongoing trade war truce. China is approaching an August 12 deadline to establish a lasting tariff agreement with the Trump administration, building on preliminary agreements reached by Beijing and Washington in May and June to de-escalate reciprocal tariffs and address restrictions on rare earth minerals.
The Trump administration has already concluded trade agreements with the European Union, Britain, and Japan. It is actively negotiating with several other countries to achieve additional trade outcomes.
