In a recent meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari and senior officials from China’s Xinjiang region discussed enhancing economic and security cooperation. The discussions focused on deepening ties in agriculture, manufacturing, livestock, mining, and new technologies.
Both leaders emphasized their shared security concerns, with President Zardari affirming that Pakistan will “continue to work with China in countering terrorism and extremism.” Chen Xiaojiang, secretary of the Communist Party in Xinjiang, also stated that both nations “would continue to maintain zero tolerance against terrorist groups targeting both countries.”
Chen highlighted Xinjiang’s economic progress, noting its GDP has surpassed 5.6 trillion yuan and that the region has become a “hub of prosperity.” President Zardari, in turn, highlighted Xinjiang’s central role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and encouraged greater industrial collaboration, specifically mentioning the potential of Special Economic Zones in Gilgit-Baltistan, which borders Xinjiang.
