ISLAMABAD: Former Senator and political commentator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has raised serious concerns over Pakistan’s ongoing political impasse, suggesting that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) appears to lack sincerity in pursuing meaningful negotiations. He emphasized the urgent need to de-escalate the growing environment of chaos and held the government responsible for preventing further political deterioration.
Speaking on a current affairs program, Khokhar confirmed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has authorized senior politician Mahmood Khan Achakzai to lead the political talks. However, he stated that the paramount challenge remains figuring out how to successfully end the prevalent environment of anarchy in the country. He stressed that the primary responsibility for maintaining stability and ensuring the environment does not worsen lies with the current government.
Khokhar also shared key demands from the opposition’s front, including the explicit request by Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas for permission to meet with the incarcerated founder of PTI.
The former senator issued a stark warning regarding the future of the country’s political process, cautioning that if the current political “encroachments” continue, no space will be left for any political party to operate democratically. He concluded by stressing that the imposition of Governor’s Rule would constitute a major blow to the political process and must be avoided at all costs.
