Thousands of solar net metering users in Pakistan remain in a state of uncertainty as the government has once again failed to make a final decision on reducing the electricity purchase price. Power Division sources confirmed that for now, no decision to cut the price has been made.
Currently, the government is buying surplus electricity from these solar users at a rate of 22 rupees per unit.
According to sources, a high-level meeting was held to review the tariffs for net metering consumers, but it concluded without any definitive outcome.
This policy uncertainty stems from an earlier attempt in June 2025, when the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had approved a drastic cut, setting the price at 10 rupees per unit. That decision sparked significant concern among the thousands of households and businesses that had made substantial investments in solar technology.
However, following strong reservations from stakeholders, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif intervened and stopped the implementation of that decision. For the time being, the 22-rupee rate remains in effect, but the matter is clearly still under review.
