Grand Prairie police are investigating a case where three masked suspects broke into a small business and stole two safes filled with cash.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday at Lili’s Restaurant on South Belt Line Road.
“They broke into my mom’s restaurant through the back,” said Marie Bonilla.
She stated that the stolen safes contained nearly $25,000. The cash was from the money transfer service her mom operated in her convenience store, which was connected to the restaurant.
“It’s hard work and money that people are sending to their families,” Bonilla said.
Surveillance footage shared by Bonilla with NBC 5 shows three masked suspects. One is seen wearing yellow gloves and looking directly at the camera before knocking it down. Another suspect wears a hoodie with “Screwed Up Click” written on the back.
Police told NBC 5 that no arrests have been made yet. Bonilla hopes that sharing the security video will help catch the suspects.
“I feel like the more we share and spread the word, the better the chance of catching these guys,” she said.
She expressed the difficulty of seeing such a large sum of money taken from her mom’s business so quickly, especially since her mom has worked hard for more than a decade.
“It’s been very heavy on us,” Bonilla said.
Despite the setback, Bonilla remains optimistic, noting that the business continues to operate and customers still rely on her mom’s store.
“We just realized that we just have to get up and keep moving, because look: Business is still running, customers are still coming in, and they depend on my mom’s business,” she said.
