ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has withdrawn the condition of only three attempts for National Licensing Exam (NLE) and decides to allow students to appear in the exam for five years after completion of their house job.
According to a spokesperson, the decision has been made in the best interest of the students. However, the limit of five years will not be applicable on those graduates who already have practice licences from abroad.
The PMC has made it mandatory to clear NLE before start of clinical practice.
According to a statement, the PMC envisions improving standards of healthcare delivery in Pakistan by fostering an environment that produces healthcare practitioners who imbibe the values of compassion, commitment, and excellence.

The Medical and Dental Council has duly approved modification to NLE policy requiring qualification of NLE to the extent that a student must qualify the NLE (Step 1 and Step 2, as applicable) within a maximum period of five years from the date of completion of house job or the first attempt, whichever is earlier.
The time limitation shall not apply to applicants who already hold a foreign practitioners licence.
There shall be no limit to the number of attempts during the prescribed period.
The PMC spokesperson stated that Pakistan Medical Commission was working with determination and motivation to devise, place and implement all those policies which are in the larger interest of the nation and students.
