The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has directed officials to expedite efforts to provide easy loan terms for small and medium-sized businesses. The decision was made during a meeting of the SMEs Business Plan, where it was emphasized that small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of the national economy.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Atta Tarar, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, Governor of State Bank Jamil Ahmed, Chief Secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, and elected members of the SMEs Board. On this occasion, a three-year roadmap was presented to promote small and medium-sized businesses in the country. The Prime Minister praised Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar and the newly elected Board of Directors of SMEs for their effective and practical plan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of the national economy, and their growth can increase the country’s import capacity. The participants of the meeting were briefed on strategies and business plans to include SMEs in the national import capacity. It was also mentioned that training programs are being conducted in six cities to increase the capacity of SMEs and prepare them for global competition.
The briefing also highlighted the efforts to increase the participation of women in the SMEs sector and their role in the sector. DG ISPR will brief the press conference on security situation and other matters. There is a high possibility of temperature rising to 12-14 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours, posing a risk to people living in red zones and those affected by the cold. People are advised to take precautions and avoid traveling to these areas.
The Prime Minister also directed the immediate launch of the second phase of the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ project during the meeting. He also offered a dialogue with the opposition, assuring them that his government has the confidence of its leader.
