Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has joked about a potential return to the iconic role, stating he would consider suiting up again if director Denis Villeneuve “had something up his sleeve.”
Brosnan, the 72-year-old Irish actor, played Bond from 1995 to 2002 in four films: GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. He was succeeded by Daniel Craig in 2006’s Casino Royale.
In an interview with the Radio Times, Brosnan playfully addressed the idea of returning to the 007 franchise as a “senior citizen.” When asked about the possibility of his comeback for the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film, he said, “I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… Who knows?”
He also mentioned that he and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, have been following the speculation about who will be the next James Bond, acknowledging that there are “many great candidates” for the role.
