The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Board of Directors has granted in-principle approval for a 15% salary increase for its employees.
A PIA spokesperson stated that the approval was given for a cadre-wise adjustment in employees’ salaries in line with inflation. The board emphasized that this move aligns wages with the country’s rising inflation.
The PIA spokesperson confirmed that this is the first salary revision in four years. The last salary increase for PIA employees was implemented in 2019. Since then, soaring inflation has significantly impacted employees, making it difficult for them to manage daily expenses.
The spokesperson further stated that the decision aims to retain experienced staff and prevent a talent drain from the organization. Over the years, PIA has seen a continuous decline in its workforce, with the total number of employees now reduced to less than 7,000 — a figure that continues to shrink.
The issue of salary revision had been pending for a long time, with repeated requests made to the Privatization Commission and the financial adviser for approval. The recent decision marks a significant step toward addressing employees’ financial concerns while ensuring PIA maintains an efficient and experienced workforce.
