The port city has experienced tremors for the sixth time since yesterday, with fresh seismic activity reported from various areas of the metropolis on Monday morning. Residents reported feeling tremors once again in the vicinity of Landhi and Malir at approximately 10:25 AM. Locals from Quaidabad, Malir, Saudabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Khokhrapar, Steel Town, and surrounding neighborhoods also confirmed experiencing the jolts. A second round of tremors was felt at 11:04 AM, leading to widespread panic. Many residents rushed out of their homes in fear.
According to the Seismological Centre, the latest tremor in Landhi and Malir registered a magnitude of 3.2. Its epicenter was located near Quaidabad at a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake was officially recorded at 10:29 AM. It is noteworthy that two mild tremors were also felt in Karachi last night.
Chief Meteorologist Aamir Haider, in a conversation with Geo News, stated that four tremors have been felt in Malir, Quaidabad, and nearby areas since Saturday. He confirmed that an earthquake was recorded at 5:33 PM yesterday, with a magnitude of 3.6 and a depth of 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was also near Quaidabad. Another tremor struck at 1:06 AM last night with a magnitude of 3.2 and a depth of 12 kilometers, centered near Gadap Town.
Aamir Haider explained that these tremors are originating from the Landhi Fault Region, an area that historically has not generated major earthquakes. He pointed out that this region is seismically active, along with another fault line near Thana Bula Khan. He added that low-intensity earthquakes are commonly reported in these areas. The Kirthar region, situated near the Main Boundary Thrust, also occasionally experiences moderate tremors. The fault line may require a few days to stabilize, and minor tremors could persist in the coming days.
