The alarming trend of fatal accidents involving water tankers and dumpers continues to plague Karachi, as another such mishap claimed a life in the Baldia Sector 8 area.
Police reported that a person was killed when a speeding water tanker struck them in Baldia Sector 8. The driver of the water tanker immediately fled the scene following the collision. However, law enforcement officials have managed to seize the vehicle, they added.
In a separate incident in Baldia’s Naval Colony area, a dumper truck collided with a rickshaw, resulting in injuries to five individuals, including two women. The dumper truck driver also escaped from the scene after the accident.
These incidents underscore the escalating danger posed by heavy vehicles on Karachi’s main roads. Fatal accidents are occurring frequently despite the government’s implementation of multiple restrictions on heavy traffic within the metropolis.
In a similar tragic event on April 14, a woman was killed when a bus collided with a motorcycle near Orangi Town No 5, according to police reports.
The woman’s body was transported to a local hospital for medico-legal procedures.
Police stated that they have arrested the bus driver and have registered a case against him.
Tragically, over 85 people have lost their lives in accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi this year alone.
This alarming surge in fatalities has ignited widespread public outrage and protests, with citizens even resorting to setting fire to heavy vehicles involved in these accidents.
In one such incident earlier this month, enraged citizens torched several dumper trucks at various locations after a speeding dumper truck crushed two motorbikes in the North Karachi area.
On April 13, a mob set ablaze a vehicle involved in an accident in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area near Disco Bakery, which resulted in one fatality.
The police subsequently took the driver and three others into custody and further detained multiple individuals for setting the vehicle on fire.
