The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Friday released a weather advisory, cautioning about thunderstorms and rainfall across the majority of Punjab’s districts, commencing this evening and persisting until June 16.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, strong winds, dusty gusts, and intermittent showers are anticipated in various regions, including Lahore, Narowal, Sargodha, Jhang, Mianwali, Sialkot, and Faisalabad.
This alert was issued following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, instructing district administrations to maintain a high state of alert and implement preventive measures in light of the forecast. DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia stated that all relevant departments have been advised to remain vigilant and ensure prompt responses to any emergencies arising from the adverse weather.
“This spell of rain is expected to provide relief from the prevailing heatwave and contribute to a reduction in overall temperature levels across the province,” DG Kathia remarked.
He urged citizens to adopt safety precautions during the forecasted period, particularly during thunderstorms. “In instances of severe winds and lightning, individuals must avoid open areas and seek refuge in secure locations,” he advised.
The PDMA also cautioned against venturing outdoors during severe weather conditions, citing the risks of lightning strikes and falling debris. “The public should refrain from staying in open areas during thunderstorms and must treat weather warnings with seriousness,” the DG added.
