Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi presided over a high-level meeting at the board’s headquarters on Monday, where it was decided that all international players will now be required to participate in domestic tournaments.
Officials stated that this decision aims to narrow the gap between domestic and international standards and offer aspiring cricketers the chance to play alongside seasoned professionals.
“Playing alongside international cricketers will groom domestic players and elevate their performance,” Naqvi was quoted as saying. “Only a robust domestic cricket structure can help us unearth the country’s top talent.”
The meeting, attended by Director International Cricket Usman Wahla, Head Coach Mike Hesson, and T20 captain Agha Salman, also reviewed preparations for the upcoming home series against South Africa and Sri Lanka, as well as away tours to the West Indies and Bangladesh.
Wahla provided a comprehensive briefing on the international calendar, logistical arrangements, and player readiness for these upcoming commitments.
Naqvi, who assumed leadership of the PCB in February, also instructed officials to commence work on the new cycle of central contracts, emphasizing the necessity of a performance-based and transparent system.
Sources indicate that the new central contracts are likely to incorporate the domestic participation policy and may include clauses linking player remuneration to their availability for crucial domestic competitions.
Naqvi reiterated the board’s commitment to revitalizing the credibility and competitive nature of domestic cricket. “We are taking all necessary measures to enhance the structure and align it with the demands of modern-day cricket,” he affirmed.
The PCB is expected to issue a formal statement in the coming days, outlining the implementation timeline for these new policies.
