LAHORE: Zaheer Abbas, the State Bank of Pakistan’s nominee, became the first cricketer in a very long time to be inducted into the Board of Governors of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Before recommending Zaheer, the State Bank had previously recommended Meraj Mahmood to the Board of Governors.
On the condition of anonymity, a PCB official confirmed that Zaheer had been added to the BoG, the PCB’s decision-making body made up of four members from the 16 regional cricket associations and four PCB departments.
Along with the secretary of the Cabinet Division and the chief secretary of the Punjab, it also has three Prime Minister nominees.
In 2007, the BoG was established for the first time, with two Test cricketers playing a crucial role. However, former players were excluded from the BoG after it was revamped by former PCB chairman Ehsan Mani following the implementation of the PCB constitution for 2019, which has since been revoked.
