Comedian Paul Rodriguez, 70, is embroiled in controversy following allegations of narcotics possession.
He was taken into custody on Friday evening after police officers stopped a vehicle for traffic violations around 7:30 p.m. California time.
“During the investigation, narcotics were discovered,” the Burbank Police Department (BPD) confirmed to People Magazine after TMZ initially reported the incident.
Rodriguez was subsequently released with a citation to appear in court on April 25, according to the BPD.
Rodriguez clarified his account to TMZ post-arrest, admitting the car was his but stating he was asleep in the passenger seat when he and his friend were stopped.
He alleged that a “Caucasian” officer was abusing his authority and woke him with a slap.
Rodriguez denied possessing any drugs, claiming the narcotics found belonged to his friend, who was driving.
His vehicle was impounded, and the BPD informed TMZ that Rodriguez’s friend is being held due to “outstanding warrants.”
