Hassan Nawaz’s parents were filled with pride as the youngster smashed a record-breaking century for the Pakistan national cricket team against New Zealand in the third T20I at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday.
Details reveal that this momentous century came in a critical, do-or-die situation for the Green Shirts, who had suffered defeats in the initial T20I matches against the Black Caps.
After being dismissed for a duck twice, Nawaz, hailing from Layyah, faced immense pressure to perform with the bat.
Witnessing his partner Haris hitting boundaries from the outset of Pakistan’s innings, Nawaz adopted a “fearless” approach to his batting.
He received crucial support from Salman Ali Agha, who was facing criticism regarding his position as Pakistan’s white-ball captain.
Agha contributed a valuable half-century, but all eyes were on Nawaz, who established himself as a “true” power-hitter.
Seeing their son display his batting prowess, Nawaz’s father said, “It is the prayers of the people of Pakistan that have made our son [Hassan Nawaz] make us proud.”
“I am very happy to see my son representing at this level today,” Nawaz’s father added.
Nawaz’s brilliant 105 runs off 45 balls propelled Pakistan to a record-breaking victory over the hosts, keeping their hopes alive in the five-match T20I series.
