Paramount+ has officially renewed MobLand, the high-profile British crime drama television series, for a sophomore season. The show, which first premiered on the streaming service in March this year and concluded its first season on June 1, quickly garnered significant viewership and critical acclaim.
Viewership Success and Critical Reception
MobLand proved to be a major success for Paramount+, staying on the Nielsen Top 10 Original Series chart for six consecutive weeks, with its most recent reported numbers covering the week of May 19 to May 25. Paramount has revealed that the first episode has accumulated 26 million viewers since its release, a figure calculated by dividing total global watch time by total run time over its first 70 days of availability.
The streaming platform also proudly announced that MobLand is now “Paramount+’s number two original of all time,” ranking just below Taylor Sheridan’s Landman.
Executive Producer Expresses Enthusiasm for Season 2
Jez Butterworth, the show’s executive producer and writer, expressed his initial hesitation about committing to television but praised Paramount+’s vision. “TV was a brand new world for me and I was reluctant to commit to a TV overall, but Chris, David, and the teams at Paramount and 101 Studios, completely changed my perspective with their bold creative vision and razor-sharp strategic insight,” Butterworth stated. He added, “Collaborating with Chris, David, Guy and our stellar cast has been nothing short of inspiring and I’m excited to dive into the second season of ‘MobLand.”
MobLand centers on the Harrigans, a powerful London crime family, and their loyal fixer, Harry Da Souza, portrayed by Tom Hardy. The series delves into their ongoing struggles with law enforcement and rival criminal organizations as they strive to maintain their dominance.
