Islamabad, Pakistan – In a surprising turn of events, the Islamabad High Court has reserved its decision on a petition challenging the appointment of a labor officer in Islamabad. The development comes after the presiding judge, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, expressed his astonishment at the petitioner’s apparent lack of knowledge about the case.
During the hearing, Justice Kiyani questioned the petitioner about their reasons for filing the case, asking them to name the person who had prompted them to take such action. The petitioner’s lawyer attempted to intervene, but Justice Kiyani swiftly silenced them, insisting that the petitioner themselves provide the necessary information.
When the petitioner failed to provide a clear answer, Justice Kiyani expressed his incredulity, saying, “Will I have to hang you or send you to jail? You’re not even showing any shame. How much money have you taken?” The judge repeatedly pressed the petitioner to reveal the name of the person who had inspired them to file the case.
After a series of heated exchanges, the court ordered the petitioner to be taken into custody. The lawyer for the petitioner then requested permission to leave the courtroom, citing the petitioner’s absence due to a court summons. However, Justice Kiyani rejected the request, saying, “You’re an ordinary citizen. You’re not exempt from court procedures.”
The judge also took a swipe at the government, saying, “The government has always been eager to negotiate, but we have one condition: any negotiations must be in the best interest of Pakistan.” The statement comes as news emerges that Afghanistan’s development budget has been reduced from 131 billion Afghanis to a mere 24 billion.
