The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved significant financial allocations aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s space program, encompassing both ongoing projects and two new initiatives.
On May 21, 2025, senior officials endorsed the Pakistan Manned Space Mission, allocating Rs 2.186 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Notably, Rs 600 million of this amount has been specifically earmarked within the 2025-26 budget document to support this historic manned spaceflight initiative.
This funding constitutes a part of a broader Rs 131.295 billion package proposed for SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) in the FY 2025–26 budget, which covers several other high-profile projects.
Crucially, the allocation also includes Rs 400 million for the Pakistan Lunar Exploration Rover, signaling continued momentum towards lunar exploration efforts in the 2025-26 budget.
These strategic advancements, structured under Pakistan’s overarching space agenda, aim to elevate the nation’s scientific capabilities, foster innovation in space technology, and reinforce bilateral collaboration. This includes strengthening partnerships, especially with China, on lunar missions such as Chang’e‑8, which is currently scheduled for 2028.
