Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has emphasized that the one million-strong Pakistani-American community serves as the most enduring link in the relationship between Pakistan and the U.S.
Addressing American policymakers, diplomats, and members of the business community, Ambassador Sheikh extended an invitation to U.S. investors to explore the significant economic opportunities available in Pakistan, particularly within its rapidly expanding IT sector.
He highlighted that Pakistan offers IT services that are 70% more cost-effective than those in the U.S., while consistently maintaining high quality. This, he noted, creates a mutually beneficial area for bilateral cooperation. “Strengthening collaboration in the technology sector can greatly benefit both nations,” he stated.
The Ambassador further pointed out that the U.S.-Pakistan trade deficit is relatively low and manageable. He specifically mentioned that Pakistan is the largest importer of American cotton and also imports soybeans from the United States. Given its strategic geographical location, Pakistan also holds potential to serve as a regional trade hub.
“Over 80 American companies are operating successfully in Pakistan, which is a strong testament to the country’s profitable and growing market,” he said, adding that fostering a business-friendly environment remains a paramount priority for the Pakistani government.
Commenting on regional tensions, Ambassador Sheikh remarked that India resorted to provocations at a time when Pakistan was making substantial economic progress. “As a nation, we take pride in our effective response to Indian aggression, but peace remains our top priority as it paves the way for economic development,” he stressed.
He acknowledged the crucial role played by U.S. leadership in facilitating the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional stability.
